The next ModelMania will take place from 9am until 4pm on 29 April 2017.
The theme for 2017 is:
In honor of the 150th Anniversary of the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate in Japan, the 2017 theme will be “Land of the Rising Sun”. Which covers everything, figures, aircraft, automotive, ships, armor, sci-fi etc. Any SUBJECT made in Japan. Not necessarily the kit was made in Japan.
The 2017 brochure (.pdf file) is here. It includes a listing of categories, specifics of the awards to be presented, rules, eligibility requirements, event guidelines, fees, and judging information. All of your questions should be answered within. (There are some changes to the categories again – we’ve added Gundam this year, for example.)
Each contestant will need to fill out one Contest Registration Form per person, plus one Contest Entry Card per entry. (Both are in MS-Word .doc format.) Print the forms at home and fill them out before the contest; you’ll be the envy of everyone who is scrambling for a pencil and trying to get their forms completed at the last minute. If you really want to look organized, copy them to your computer, fill it out using your word processor of choice, and print it without having to use any writing implement at all! Please note that contest entry closes at 1pm and judging begins immediately afterward.

IPMS – Houston welcomes you to Modelmania – Houston’s largest, fine-scale model show. The show is open to the general public and is attended by many from all over the state and region. Each year, on an average, nearly 500 scale models are entered in the contest. The show is located in the Stafford Centre, just southwest of the heart of Houston at 10505 Cash Road, Stafford, TX.
Your first ticket included free with a General Admission Ticket or Contest Entry. Additional tickets are $1 each. Winners will be drawn periodically throughout the day, and may pick the prize of their choice from those available. Winning ticket numbers are recorded on a whiteboard so you don’t have to be there at the time your number is drawn.
Here are some of the door prizes for ModelMania 2017:
Raffle prize tickets are $5 each. These are the larger, more expensive donations or bundles of several smaller prizes. The winners will be drawn during the awards ceremony, and you must be present to win. Raffle tickets are entered and drawn per item, so you can put all of your tickets in one bucket, or spread them out as you see fit.
Thanks to our generous vendors and donations, the prize table is replenished throughout the day, so be sure to buy plenty of tickets.
SPECIAL AWARD AND CATEGORY SPONSORSHIP
We are most grateful for any contest sponsorship. The contest helps promote the hobby. Sponsorship makes the contest possible and provides economical advertisement for the sponsor. We announce the sponsor’s name during the Awards Ceremony for each set of awards. Additionally the Contest Category Display Cards (located on the contest tables) display your sponsorship, thus advertising YOU! Additionally we can include your logo, phone #, city, and website in addition to your name on the Contest Category Display Cards. Division sponsorship is $50; individual categories within the divisions are $30.
A list of the categories and special awards is included in the show brochure. Details on the special awards are on the Special Awards page.
