Thanks to Mike Stucker for kindly taking notes at the last meeting. For those of you who couldn’t make it (I include myself in that number), there were nineteen returning members and six visitors and/or new members.
Lots of models present. Richard Kern brought a number of his award-winners from the Wichita, KS show he attended (brave man – nine hour drive).
The demo session was a triple special:
Roy McCartney gave a demo on the Thinnerline circle cutting tool from Shadow Hobby. One of those “not cheap. but does a great job” gadgets in that it works very nicely to make masks when painting roundels. Available here.
Vince Barrale reviewed his in-process Bandai Tie Fighter.
Mike Stucker gave a new product talk about three tools he recently acquired via Amazon.com. They were:
Mike shared that he came across an online discussion about cleaning airbrushes, and these dental devices were mentioned as good for getting into really small holes in some of the airbrush parts. Mike actually found them to be “a dismal failure, as the fold up the second they get wet”.
Universal Work Holder & Peg Clamp Vice $14.86
Use it to hold parts while painting them by hand. Very good for holding small (up to 75mm) figures.
Edmunds Super Bright LED Lamp $6.96 (“add-on” item which ships free with $25 order – or else pay more to order it standalone). Small desk lamp for putting light close to your work when the room lights just aren’t bright enough. Runs on 4 AA batteries and it has a cord to plug into a USB port. Folds small for easy storage or carrying. Perfect for when Vince or Tom are building models in a hotel room.
We’re just a week away from this (and I’ll send out my normal reminder with agenda items the day before) – recommend not bringing any completed models to discuss – the room is likely to be very full and we don’t want to risk anything being broken.
Rick was busy clearing out during Thanksgiving. Just good to take stock, clean things out and start afresh. Read and enjoy!
